To make your own frame use 3 sticks or other non conducive material (pvc) to make a triangle frame. Cut 3 legs approximately 21-22 inches long.

Antenna has BNC female connection point. So a common and easy way to set this up is:

Handheld- sma female to bnc female adapter on handheld, bnc male coax connects everything.

Base/mobile- PL-259 to bnc female adapter on radio, bnc male connects everything.
